“
”Elisse is a Renaissance writer and editor; that is, she can write about anything, and she can make anything better.”
—Annie Barrows, bestselling author of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Ivy & Bean and The Magic Half
”I worked with Elisse Gabriel, and witnessed her wordsmith wizardry as she seemed to magically enter inside of whatever she was writing about and bring it to life. She holds herself to the highest standards, getting polished and lively copy in always on time (and even before!), and takes direction beautifully.”
—Leslie Crawford, Senior Editor, GreatSchools.org
”Elisse Gabriel is a wonderful writer who inspires me with her creative flair for storytelling and her keen attention to detail. As an editor, she has helped me so much with my own writing, as she is incisive and right on target with her feedback. Plus, she’s totally focused, while still maintaining her warmth and great sense of humor.”
—Jill Suttie, Senior Writer, Greater Good Magazine
”Elisse is a valuable member of our book publishing team. She has weighed in on different story ideas, provided excellent editorial feedback, and written compelling, near-poetic back cover copy. I’ve come to rely on Elisse not only for her beautiful writing and editorial judgment, but because of just how nice and reliable she is. When she passes along feedback, she does so in a way that's thoughtful and sensitive, as well as insightful.”
—Clare Ellis, Publisher, Stone Pier Press
”Elisse brings a graceful presence to her work, asking important clarifying questions, providing clear communications, and capturing the deeper essence of unarticulated messages that are ultimately important in developing communications collateral. She is versatile and we would eagerly hire her again as a writer, editor, and communications consultant.”
—Wendy Horng Brawer, Executive Director, 14000hours.org
”Elisse has the rare combination of skills that most companies need but cannot find. She is both a writer and an editor, keeping in mind everything from the most minute product details to the big picture. She’s also quick, reliable, conscientious, and a genuinely nice person. As if that’s not enough, she’s also a published author. What more could you want?”
—Maria Sample, Editor, Williams Sonoma
MY STORY
(In a nutshell)
I grew up in Ohio.
That Midwestern work ethic is the real deal.
I’m a middle child, the second oldest of four.
Ideal training ground for sharing, mediating, collaborating,
and responding quickly, especially at the dinner table.
When I was 14, I worked at Baskin-Robbins, where I tended
customers, mopped floors, and closed shop.
See Midwestern note above. And yes, I can make an awesome sundae.
At 22, I flew to San Francisco for the first time.
I thought I was just visiting. That was more than 20 years ago.
I am mostly (but not strictly) left-handed.
One thing I have in common with Michelangelo, Benjamin Franklin, and Jimi Hendrix.
I have a husband, two sons, and a dog.
They all shed. But they do have wonderful dispositions.
I still hand-write thank you notes.
My mom taught me well.
I can go either way with the Oxford comma, but
please don’t say, “Between you and I.”
I am flexible, but I know when to draw the line.
WHAT’S YOUR STORY?
Drop me a note and let’s get started!
